Here is the third video tutorial of my four part series in how to teach your dog to ‘STAY’. Don’t forget to go back and check out the first two videos if you haven’t already, and of course keep your eyes peeled for the final video.
As before, make sure your dog has mastered the first two steps before moving onto this third step. Your dog should be confidently staying in your chosen position (for example sit or down) on lead before you attempt DROPPING the lead. When dropping the lead make sure that you work in a secure environment initially until you are confident of your dog’s ability to stay. You could also use a longline for extra security.
Top tip – keep a short distance away from your dog initially when asking them to stay and build up the distance over time. As your dog gets more confident you should be able to move further away. Practise little and often and always reward your dog for achieving what you have asked (remembering to always go back to their side!).
Let me know if you give it a go and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel for future reference.
Happy training!
