I thought I would share with you how I provided some extra stimulation for young Bertha in the garden yesterday, keeping my mind active as well as hers.

These two activities took just minutes to prepare and set up using toys I already had in the house. The first toy was used for a different purpose than intended, so don’t be afraid to change up your use of toys and reinvent them for your dog in a different way. Bertha loved it!

To fill the slow feeder style toy I used a liver based pet shop bought paste however again you can be creative with what you have in the house – dog friendly peanut butter (must be xylitol free as this is poisonous!), a little bit of tuna or other meat, your dog’s usual wet food, or even larger biscuits that prove a challenge to remove, are all good and easy examples.

If you don’t have anything similar or suitable, take a look online as you can find such items cheaply and readily available for delivery.

As you can see, I have used the garden waste bin to secure these items to, which is heavy as it’s full and so there is no risk of it moving or toppling over. Again, use what you have around you and be creative! Just think about the size and weight of your dog.

Let me know if you try this out or even if you create your own ‘reinvented’ game from existing toys. I’d love to see what you come up with!
