TEACHING THE HEEL COMMAND USING POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

Using food to positively reward when teaching your dog actions and commands is another way to get your dog’s brain ticking. Training is an excellent way to mentally stimulate your dog whilst improving your bond and understanding of each other too.

In this tutorial I show you how to teach the ‘heel’ command with the lovely Maz as my assistant. Maz is pro at this already but if your dog is a beginner, as with all training you embark on, remember the phrase ‘little and often’. Structure training sessions into your day, keeping them short and sweet and always finishing on a good note.

As always, make sure that the food or treats you use are valued by your dog and ones that they find particularly tasty. You might even want to reserve some ‘special’ treats for training.

Let me know if you give it a go or what other training you have been undertaking this week. I love to hear all about yours and your dog’s day!

Much love, keep smiling and loving those dogs. Happy training guys.
