ROVER.COM – DOG FRIENDLY PUB AWARDS – YAHOO NEWS

Whilst helping Rover.com recently with their quest to find the best dog friendly pubs in the UK, it got me thinking more about dog friendly venues and what this actually means.

Whilst lots of places are now dog ‘friendly’, this often simply means that our dogs are welcome to accompany us. What we should be looking for instead is whether somewhere is dog ‘SUITABLE’! Remember, just because somewhere is listed as dog friendly, it doesn’t always mean that it is the best location to spend time with your dog. In fact, some venues could in fact make for an unsafe or stressful time for our beloved dogs.

Whilst we can help to mitigate issues and our dog’s feeling uncomfortable by researching ahead of time and also taking our own travel items with us such as beds, water, bowls, toys, chews and treats, it is also SO helpful when you know a venue already has you covered with these essentials!

For me, it is this, along with well thought out designated safe areas for dogs, that makes an establishment stand out from the crowd, helps to put our dogs at ease, and makes somewhere dog SUITABLE and not just dog friendly!
