‘Constructive’ socialisation is vital. Handlers are told by breeders, trainers and vets to socialise their dogs and puppies from a young age, but they rarely tell handlers how to do it properly!
Dog-ease classes teach handlers how to appreciate breed differences and capabilities. Successful socialising in a park or field is not straightforward when dogs vary so much in size and temperament. Trainers and behaviour specialists talk about the importance of pack dynamics and natural behaviours. In my classes I will explain how to understand these concepts in a practical, hands-on way. Remember much of what we require a dog to do is making the un-natural become natural.
